Port of Spain - Red House Parliament (Woodford Square)
Built in 1906-7 in Renaissance style, the impressive Red House Parliament now serves the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. It is capped with a large square dome. The original assembly building on the site was destroyed by fire in 1801. A second was rebuilt 1844-48 but again gutted during the 1903 water riots.
The current structure dominates Woodford Square which is also the site of the courts, library (1901) and town hall on the north and Holy Trinity Cathedral on the south. The square is noted for its large Pink Poui trees which flower in March and April.

This Gothic Anglican Cathedral sits on the south side of Woodford Square. The interior was built between 1818 and 1826 with a hardwood ceiling supported on elaborately curved wooden beams. Also of note are the fine work of the altar, choir and organ.
This building replaced an earlier one destroyed in the great fire of 1808.
