In North Side (the north bank of the Allegheny River) is the huge Carnegie Science Center (1 Allegheny Avenue), a museum of science and technology. Among the subjects dealt with are industrial processing methods, the use of energy and socio-cultural aspects of nutrition. The Pacific Coral Reef Aquarium displays a wide range of tropical fishes. In the Rangos Omnimax Theater visitors can make imaginary journeys through the human body; in the Henry Buhl Jr Planetarium and Observatory they can fly into space.

The museum offers more than 250 hands-on exhibits dealing with science and technology.
The Omnimax Theater is a domed, four-story screen that presents audiovisual shows. Laser shows are held on weekends.
The Henry Buhl Jr. Planetarium and Observatory explore outer space. Meanwhile, the Miniature Railroad and Village document the state's history and culture.
