Gazela of Philadelphia
The Gazela of Philadelphia is the oldest and largest wooden tall ship still sailing. The Portuguese built her in 1883 for fishing the Grand Banks for cod. They coated the cod with salt, which got into the timbers of the ship, which has preserved the vessel all these years. The ship has been used in motion pictures and has played a major part in shipping extravaganzas, including the Bicentennial and the 1982 Statue of Liberty Sail in New York.
