Philadelphia - Congregation Mikveh Israel Cemetery

Founded in 1740, Congregation Mikveh Israel is the second oldest congregation in the country. Many historic figures are associated with the congregation. Benjamin Franklin contributed to the building fund. Early member Haym Salomon, banker and broker, was an important backer of the Revolutionary War. Another early member, Simon Gratz, was a noted philanthropist who gave his name to Gratz College, which currently thrives in Elkins Park, PA, down the street from the world-renowned Frank Lloyd Wright synagogue.
