American Music Theater Festival Description
Founded in 1984, the AMTF presents productions of contemporary music theater in all its forms, including opera, music drama, musical comedy, experimental work and cabaret. To date, AMTF has produced 67 music theater works. Forty-six were world or American premieres. Thirty-three AMTF productions have gone on to open in New York (including two on Broadway and one Off-Broadway) and/or tour nationally and internationally. Noteworthy AMTF premieres have included work by: William Bolcom, Lee Breur, Robert Brustein, Anthony Davis, Thulani Davis, Duke Ellington, Allen Ginsberg, Phillip Glass, Elliot Goldenthal, David Gordon, Ricky Ian Gordon, Adam Guettel and David Henry Hwang.
