Pest - Roosevelt Square Roosevelt tér

One of the masterpieces of the Secessionist style in Budapest is Gresham Palace (Gresham palota) built in 1907. It was originally a traditional insurance office, but between the two world wars it became the Café Gresham, a well-known meeting place for artists.

In Akadémia utca, behind the Academy, there are two notable Classical buildings: at Akadémia utca 1, a house completed in 1835 with a fine façade and Corinthian wall pillars, where the Polish General József Bem (a renowned freedom fighter) once lived, and at Akadémia utca 3, an imposing building dating from 1836 and designed by the great architect József Hild.

The small square known as Eötvös tér has a monument of József Eötvös by A. Huszár. On the south side of Eötvös tér stand two ultra-modern luxury hotels, built in the 1980s. Although designed by Hungarian architects (Atrium Hyatt by L. Zalaváry and Forum by K. Finta), their design is more internationally stereotyped than traditionally Hungarian. Nevertheless, the covered inner courtyard of the Atrium, used as a café, is worth seeing; a model of the first Hungarian aeroplane is suspended in mid-air.
