Pest - Hungarian Academy of Science Magyar Tudományos Akadémia
The north side of Roosevelt tér is dominated by the monumental building of the Hungarian Academy of Science (Magyar Tudományos Akadémia); built in Neo-Renaissance style and founded on the initiative of Count István Széchenyi, it was completed in 1864. The plans were drawn up by the Berlin architect F. A. Stüler. The Academy, with which are now associated a number of research institutes, has a scientific library which enjoys worldwide renown, especially the Oriental Department. In the restored Festival Hall are some fine frescos by Károly Lotz.
