Perched high upon a ridge, 300 m / 1000 ft above the Urubamba River, is the majestic Inca City of Machu Picchu. Hiram Bingham, an archeologist and adventurer from the United States came to Peru in search of the legendary "Lost City of the Incas", known as Vilcabamba. It had been documented by Spanish soldiers in the 1500s but never seen again. In 1911 Bingham came across the ruins of Machu Picchu and assumed this was in fact the lost city,
