Council House
The ultra-modern Council House flanks the Government House and is the new headquarters of the city authorities.
Government House
Government House, built in 1859-64, is still the residence of the governor of Western Australia. In ornate neo-Gothic style, it attracted a great deal of criticism because the cost of building far exceeded the original estimates. The gardens of Government House are open to the public on special occasions.
Old Court House
The Old Court House (1836) is the city's oldest surviving public building. A plain building fronted by a Doric colonnade, it was later used as a theater, a church and a concert hall. It now belongs to the Law Society of Western Australia and contains a small museum.
Perth Concert Hall
The ultra-modern Concert Hall flanks the Government House and is a modern functional building with seating for 1900. The Concert Hall is used for performances of opera, folk music and rock concerts. In the Music Shell in the Supreme Court gardens, free concerts are given in summer.
