Périgueux Cathedral

In the center of Périgueux is the triangular Place Bugeaud, from which the picturesque old quarter of Puy-St-Front extends eastward to the Cathedral of St-Front. This, the youngest of the domed churches of Aquitaine, was built between 1125 and 1250 on the site of an earlier church and was restored in the 19th C. by the architect of the Sacré-Coeur in Paris, who gave the exterior of the church an unduly Eastern aspect. The almost completely undecorated interior, on a Greek cross plan, has five high domes (which can be seen at close quarters from the roof).
