This was the site of the Battle of Wyoming on July 3, 1778 where 1,200 Indians and renegade whites defeated 300 frontiersman. Following this was the Wyoming Massacre in which the Indians set out in a series of raids on the unprotected settlements. A monument at 4th Street and Wyoming Avenue commemorate the victims of the massacre.
The original cabin built on Swetland Homestead in 1803 still stands. Over 70 years there were many additions to the structure which have transformed it into an elegant home. The period rooms include the summer kitchen to the Victorian parlor of the 1860's, providing a glimpse of life and household objects for the residents.
