Wilkes-Barre was named for John Wilkes and Isaac Barre, who were members of the British Parliament and Colonial sympathizers. Wilkes-Barre is home to the Luzerne County Historical Society, Coal Street Park, and the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts.
