Oil City Attractions
Oil was discovered in 1860 and that brought an almost overnight settlement of Oil City. 17 million barrels of oil were shipped from this region to Pittsburgh.
Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry
The Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry highlights the history of the discovery of oil with tours to historic sites, lectures, and changing annual "hands on" science exhibits. The museum also offers musical and performance programs, summer children's programs, regional art shows, and an annual river expedition aboard a working replica of a 19th century packet boat, the "Pine Knot."
