Avenue of Flags
The display of flags began on November 4, 1979, when Iranian militant students took control of the American embassy and held 53 American citizens captive. An American flag was erected for each day that the hostages were held. The hostages were released on January 20, 1981.

Located within Hillcrest Memorial Park, the Avenue of Flags has 444 flags on display. There are monuments throughout the park as well as pond with fountain.
