Farmington is a small town southeast of Uniontown.
Fort Necessity National Battlefield
This is actually a reconstruction of the fort that Washington built in 1854. The Battle of Fort Necessity marked the beginning of the French and Indian War. The park allows picnicking and offers a 10-minute audiovisual presentation.
Near the fort is Mount Washington Tavern, a restored nineteenth-century stagecoach inn; the grave of General Edward Braddock; and Jumonville Glen which was the site of a battle between the French and British armies that led to the Battle of Fort Necessity. Details and directions are available at the Visitor Center.
