Carlisle Attractions

Carlisle was founded in 1751 and was home to James Wilson and George Ross, two signers of the Declaration of Independence. It was also home to Carlisle Indian School, the first non-reservation school for American Indians.
Carlisle Barracks
Home to the U.S. Army War College and the second oldest army post in the country. The base was founded in 1757 and first used in 1758. Hessian Powder Magazine Museum is also on site and features a variety of military artifacts and displays.

Cumberland County Historical Society Library and Museum
Exhibits at the Cumberland County Historical Society include one of America's oldest printing presses, woodcarvings, iron-furnace products and memorabilia from the Carlisle Indian School. A folk art gallery has a significant collection of work while the county orientation map features historical hightlights.
