Paphos - Maa Bronze Age Settlement
|
|
The Maa Bronze Age Settlement seems to have some defensive function, standing on the headland, three sides of which are protected by steep cliffs. The remaining side was protected by a wall three-and-a-half meters wide and with two gates. It was an ideal place for a settlement with a safe natural harbor and a nearby perennial spring, although it seems to have been inhabited only sporadically and was abandoned and resettled several times, perhaps after attacks by raiders. Numerous houses have been uncovered and it could have been a military outpost for foreign settlers.
