Zwieselstein
Coming from Sölden, and after passing through the narrow Kühtreienschlucht (gorge) the road comes to Zwieselstein (1,472m/4,830ft), where the Ötztal divides into the Gurgler Tal (to the left) and the Venter Tal (to the right). ("Zwiesel" means a fork in a road, etc.)

From Zwieselstein a road proceeds 13km/8mi southwestward up the Venter Tal to the magnificent mountain village of Vent (1,896m/6,621ft), on the waymarked footpath (No. 902) from Obergurgl to the Inn valley. There are several chairlifts and ski tows, a weather station and a glacier observatory (on the Vernagt glacier). A very steep mountain road (gradients up to 30%, 1 in 3.5) leads up to Rofenhöfe (2,014m/6,608ft), to the west, the highest village in Austria to be occupied all the year round. To the north rears the Wildspitze (3,372m/12,376ft), the highest peak in northern Tirol; to the south the Thalleitspitze (3,407m/11,178ft) and to the right of this the Kreuzspitze (3457m/11,342ft).
