The town of Gold Hill (pop. 1,070) is located in the southwest area of Oregon. It is best known for the Oregon Vortex, a roadside attraction that offers an optical illusion.
The Vortex area has been a mystery since before the arrival of the settlers. The American Indians would not enter the area and it was abandoned by wildlife and birds. The area has always been known for it's strange occurrences.
In the 1890's the Grey Eagle Mining Co. built a gold assay office within this area. In 1910 a mud slide moved the house a short distance and left it unleveled and on an awkward angle.
In the house people and objects appear disproportionate in size and objects move in seemingly illogical directions, such as balls rolling up hills, and people walking through tend to lean north.
