The small town of West Liberty is a pleasant place and makes for a good day trip from Columbus, Lima, or Dayton. The town is located in the historical district called the Simon Kenton Corridor.
West Liberty was founded in 1817 but almost entirely wiped out by a massive fire in 1880. Located nearby are underground caverns, good fishing, camping, and canoeing.
Ohio Caverns, sometimes referred to as "America's Most Colorful Cavern" is the largest cave in Ohio. The caverns feature stalactite and stalagmite formations. Keep in mind that the underground temperature is cool year round a sweater is recommended.
Located on site is a gift shop, shelter and picnic tables.

The Piatt Castle in West Liberty is home to the houses the Mac-A-Cheek Foundation for the Humanities, more commonly referred to as MFH. The foundation hosts regular events including concerts, plays and other performances.
On display at the Piatt Castle are a variety of historical artifacts, old photographs, and other exhibits on the history of West Liberty and the surrounding areas.
