Portsmouth is largely a manufacturing center but has some beautiful historic areas with 18th Century architecture. One of the more recent additions to the city which will be of interest to visitors is the Emporium at Portsmouth. This Antique Mall is located in a late 18th Century building that has been fully and beautifully restored. Numerous vendors have opened shop in here offering all types of antiques.

Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center
The Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center is located in a beautiful eaux Arts style building in downtown Portsmouth. The museum features two permanent collections as well as space for temporary exhibits. The permanent collections include the largest collection of works by artist Clarence Holbrook Carter and a prehistoric Native American display entitled "Art of the Ancients".
Also onsite at the Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center is a theatre for performing arts, a reading room, space for classes and a gift shop.
