Newark Attractions

Newark is home to numerous cultural, historical and natural treasures. Visitors will find a variety of attractions to entertain themselves during their stay in Newark. Some of the highlights in Newark and the surrounding area include golfing, fishing, shopping, the Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve, the historic Buckingham Meeting House, the National Heisey Glass Museum, the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra, and the Downtown National Historic Register District.
Dawes Arboretum
Dawes Arboretum is one of the highlights of Newark. The garden maintains a vast array of plants, with a particular emphasis on native species. The Arboretum is spread over 1,700 acres with a variety of themes. From spring until fall there is always something in bloom and the gardens are ever changing.

Within Dawes Arboretum is a Japanese Garden, an outlook tower, a Bonsai collection, and wetland areas with boardwalks to name just some of the attractions.

Dresden - Longaberger Basket Company
The Longaberger Basket Company located in Dresden draws visitors from miles around. They come for the wrought iron furnishings, home décor, and of course, baskets. Visitors to the Longaberger Basket Company can take a tour of the facility and even make their own basket. A retail shop is on the premises so you can purchase that one of a kind item and take it home with you.

Licking County Historical Society Museums
The Licking County Historical Society operates three properties in the Newark area which include the Sherwood-Davidson House, the Robinson-Hunter House, and the Webb House.

The Sherwood-Davidson House Museum is a restored early 19th Century Federal style mansion. The Robbins-Hunter Museum is a large Greek Revival style house built in 1842. On display are a range of 18th and 19th furniture, art and household items.

The Webb House Museum is an early 20th Century house and is decorated to recreate the time period.

National Heisey Glass Museum
The National Heisey Glass Museum is located in Veterans Park in Newark. The museum displays a vast array of Heisey glassware in all kinds of colors, patterns and unique cuts. Visitors can also learn about the production process and how the designs are crafted.

The National Heisey Glass Museum is housed in the 1831 Greek Revival style Samuel D. King residence. The A. H. Heisey & Company operated in Newark from 1896-1957.
