The Garst Museum in Greenville is operated by the Darke County Historical Society featuring changing exhibits. The main exhibit attractions are The Annie Oakley Center, Crossroads of Destiny, a large collection of memorabilia from broadcaster and world traveler Lowell Thomas, and a gallery of Currier and Ives original prints.
The Annie Oakley Center was opened to the public in 2005 and is composed of three areas: the fame and fortune hallway, Annie's family and personal life and her professional life with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. As the world's largest known collection of Annie Oakley memorabilia, many of the artifacts have never before been on public display. The museum will be having several special events during 2010 in celebration of Annie's 150th birthday observance.
Crossroads of Destiny, which opened in 2008, has a premier display of prehistoric tools, the exhibit leads the visitor into the chronicles of Anthony Wayne, Tecumseh, Little Turtle, Blue Jacket, and many other famous frontier legends that participated in the events that led to the Treaty of Greene Ville in 1795.
Lowell Thomas, a Darke County native, was pioneer in radio broadcasting in the United States. He was the author of over 60 books. Displays include many items from his travels around the world including WW1 battle flags from the Middle East.
