The city of Gallipolis stands on the banks of the Ohio River. The city name is French for City of Gauls and Gallipolis still retains a bit of its French origins. Today Gallipolis is a pleasant day trip from the surrounding communities of Huntington and Charleston, WV. The town has just over 4,000 residents and a good selection of restaurants.
The Ariel Theatre began as an Opera House during the period of gas lighting. At her peak, the Ariel Theatre hosted Will Rogers, Sarah Bernhard and Daniel Emmett. The theatre was restored and re-opened in 1990.
Today the Ariel - Ann Carson Dater Performing Arts Centre is home to the Ohio Valley Symphony, the only professional orchestra in southeast Ohio; the Ariel players theater troupe; and the Ohio Valley Youth Orchestra.

Our House Museum in Gallipolis is a three-story brick Federal style home. It was originally a tavern in the first half of the 19th Century called "Our Home". The tavern gained fame when it was visited by General Lafayette in 1825. During its day, Our House was one of the highlights of the social scene in Gallipolis.
