Bellevue Attractions

The city of Bellevue has numerous cultural and natural attractions. For some adventure visitors can explore the Seneca Caverns, a Registered Natural Landmark. Sightseers can visit the Sorrowful Mother Shrine, the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum, or the historic Tremont House at the corner of Main and West Streets.

Downtown Bellevue is home to many unique gift and craft stores and a full range of restaurants.
Historic Lyme Village
The Historic Lyme Village offers a glimpse into the past. The site is "Preserving Yesterday for Tomorrow", which is the slogan used by the association that undertook the project to restore these old buildings. One of the main highlights of Historic Lyme Village is the 1882 John Wright Mansion. There are also numerous other homes and shops, a church, and schoolhouse, most from around the mid 19th Century. Each building has its own unique character.

Mad River and NKP Railroad Society Museum
The Mad River Railroad Museum in Bellevue is a unique set up with some of the collection displayed in military Troop Sleepers. Visitors will find a range of artifacts from military uniforms to china and linen. The name of the museum comes from the Mad River & Lake Erie Railroad that ran through Bellevue in the late 1830s.

Seneca Caverns
The famous Seneca Caverns should not be confused with the similarly named caverns in Virginia. Ohio's Seneca Caverns near Bellevue were discovered in 1872 and are a registered Ohio Natural Landmark. The tour takes visitors 110 ft / 37 m underground to explore various rooms, one of which is over 250 ft/ 83 m long. The Ol'Misty River flows through the caverns and is part of the region's underwater waterway system.

Sorrowful Mother Shrine
The Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue is known for being the oldest marian Shrine in the Midwest. The shrine was established by the Society of the Most Precious Blood in 1850 where the faithful could go to honor the Sorrowful Mother. The Sorrowful Mother Shrine is located on a beautiful 120 acre site of woodlands.
