Vøringsfoss

20km/12.5mi beyond Dyranut a narrow road (toll) branches off and runs 1km/0.75mi north to the Fosslihotell (alt. 729m/2,392ft), commandingly situated above the precipitous Måbødal. From here there is a superb view of the Vøringsfoss, where the Bjoreia plunges vertically 183m/600ft into a narrow rock basin, which is always filled with a dense mass of spray (marvelous play of color, particularly in the afternoon).

The Fosslihotell is a good base for mountain walks and climbs. Particularly rewarding is the long walk (13-14.5 hours) by way of the Demmevass hut (1,280m/4,200ft), on the western edge of the Hardangerjøkul, to Finse (1,222m/4,009ft) on the Bergen Railroad (the highest station in the country), situated on the Finsevann in a lonely mountain setting. From Finse there are glacier treks on the Hardangerjøkul, with guides.
Transit: Bergen rail station.
