North Cape Hall

Hewn from the rock of the North Cape is the North Cape Hall. A tunnel lined with tableaux on the history of the North Cape leads to the main hall (North Cape certificates, special stamps and postmarks) with a panoramic window on the Arctic Ocean. An arrow indicates the direction of true north. In good weather the view extends west, north and east over the open sea. To the southeast are the islands of Hjelmsøy and Rolvsøy; to the east, in the distance, the Nordkinn promontory; to the south the plateau of Magerøy with its snowfields, its lakes and its scanty vegetation. A granite column on the North Cape commemorates a visit by King Oscar II in 1873.

Since 1929 the North Cape has been under statutory protection as a nature reserve, and the removal of plants is prohibited.

The midnight sun is visible here from May 14 to July 30, reaching its lowest point at 10:35 p.m. (GMT).
