From Gulsvik in 33km/20mi the road comes to Nesbyen (alt. 167m/548ft, pop. 2,200), situated on a broad detrital cone. To the west is the Hallingdal Folk Museum, with 14 old buildings. Nesbyen has a church of 1862 and a new chapel in the style of the stave churches. A large market is held here during the first week in July. Among the hidden attractions of the little town is the 30km/19-mi-long tunnel through the mountains which brings water to a hydroelectric station. Possible excursions to various beautifully situated summer grazing stations and into the Hardangervidda.
Nesbyen offers golfing, skiing, hiking, and fishing opportunities.
