Haugesund Attractions

The E 76 comes to Haugesund (pop. 27,000), in Rogaland county, a busy port (services to Stavanger and Bergen) and industrial town, with an airport. The Town Hall also houses the Municipal Museum. As a cultural centre, Haugesund hosts a large International Film Festival every September and Sildajazz, an international jazz festival, in August.

The town is linked with the little island of Risøy (fishing port; extensive quays) by an arched concrete bridge.
Haraldshaug
2km/1.25mi north of the town center of Haugesund is the Haraldshaug, said to be the burial mound of Harald Fairhair, whose naval victory at Stavanger in 872 is commemorated by a 17m/55ft high granite obelisk erected in 1872, the 29 blocks of stone in the monument representing the tribes which he united into a single nation.
Herring Jazz Festival
Haugesund Herring Jazz Festival with jazz and seafood is in August.
This month-long festival draws thousands of visitors to Haugesund every summer.
