Gausdal Region Attractions
Leave Lillehammer on a road which leads southwest and crosses the narrow north end of Lake Mjøsa on a long bridge; then turn right into Road 253, which runs along the west side of the lake, passing Jørstadmoen and the airport on the right. At the church of Faberg (1724) turn left into Road 255, which goes along the Gausdal (the valley of the Gausa), with another road parallel to it on the hillside to the east.
Follebu
At Follebu (alt. 310m/1,015ft) a road goes off on the right and comes in 2km/1.25mi to the stone-built medieval parish church, higher up on the hillside.
Segalstadbru
At Segalstadbru the continuation of Road 255, to the left, runs up the valley, which grows steadily narrower, to Vestre Gausdal (church of 1784), while to the right Road 254 continues to climb up the Østre Gausdal to Stingvoll (alt. 480m/1575ft), where it is possible either to bear left for the Peer Gynt Trail or right via Tretten into the beautiful Gudbrandsdal.
Østre Gausdal - Aulestad
From Lillehammer 1km/0.75mi beyond Follebu, in Østre Gausdal (to the right of the road), is the large farmhouse of Aulestad, in which the writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832-1910) lived from 1875 onwards. The house is now a museum.
