Dovrefjell Attractions

From Dombås E 6 runs northeast through the Hinddal and climbs into the Dovrefjell, the highest peak in which is Snøhetta (2,286m/7,500ft). Here the coniferous forest gives place to stunted birch-trees, but these in turn soon disappear.

E 6 is now following the line of the old Kongsvei (Royal Road), along which for several centuries the Norwegian kings traveled to Trondheim for their coronation. In another 10km/6mi it reaches Fokstua (alt. 982m/3,222ft). To the left begins the high moorland region of Fokstumyren, the haunt of many birds (nature reserve). To the right is a view of Fokstuhø (1,716m/5,630ft), which can be climbed in 2.5-3 hours.

E 6 continues over the moor. To the right can be seen Falketind (1,684m/5,525ft), to the left, 8km/5mi farther on, a long lake, the Vålåsjø. At the end of the lake a side road leads to Dovregubbens Hall (food and accommodation).
