Bykle Attractions

Road 9 runs high above the Otra, which here flows through a gorge, and comes to Bykle (alt. 549m/1,801ft), an old village steeped in the peasant traditions of the valley lying a little to the east of the Bossvatn. The church (13th C.) has a fine 16th century interior which was decorated in the 19th century with acanthus patterns. To the north of the church is the Huldrehein Museum, with 16th century wooden houses.

The road now crosses the Otra again on the Berdal bridge and continues east along the shores of the Hartevatn.
North of Bykle is the ski resort, Hovden, which offers cross-country skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing.
Sarvsfoss
A short distance east of Bykle is the Sarvsfoss, the finest waterfall on the Otra, 30m/100ft high. From Bykle there are marked footpaths into the surrounding hills. North of Bykle the valley becomes flatter and the landscape more mountainous in character.
