The city of Asheboro was founded on Christmas Day in 1776. Asheboro is spread over approximately 15 square miles and has a population of just over 17,000 residents. One of the key attractions of Asheboro is the North Carolina Zoological Park and Gardens, the world's largest natural habitant zoo. The city is home to several major employers including Black & Decker and Georgia Pacific.
The North Carolina Aviation Museum is located just outside of Asheboro. The museum features aircraft from a variety of time periods and dating as far back as WWI. The main focus military aircraft and also houses a collection of other military items including uniforms and other artifacts.
On display at the North Carolina Aviation Museum visitors will find a Piper J-3 Cub, Stearman, Swiss P3, C-45, and more.
The museum is also going to become the NC Aviation Hall of Fame.

The North Carolina Zoological Park in Asheboro is one of the best zoos in the state. The zoo features domestic and exotic animals in enclosures designed to resemble their natural habitats, with the same or similar plants as would be found in the wild. The North Carolina Zoological Park is very large with miles of walking trails so be prepared for a big day. This is a great outing for families.
