Description
The Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain for modern and contemporary art in Nice was opened in 1990. The architects were Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal. Its four towers, faced in Carrara marble, show a representative cross section of fine arts during the 1960s and 1970s: new realists and pop art, American abstracts, minimalists, the flux movement. In particular, are works on display by Yves Klein, the main representative of the Nouveaux Réalistes, who was born in Nice in 1928. A whole room is devoted to his work and on the roof terrace, which has an exceptionally beautiful view across Nice, two "immatériels" stand, which were created for the museum in 1990.

A short distance to the southeast is the Place Garibaldi, with its statue of the Italian freedom fighter who was born in Nice.
