Musée Chagall
In Nice, the avenue de Flirey and the connecting boulevard de Cimiez lead south from the amphitheater and baths. At the crossing with the avenue du Docteur Ménard stands the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall, the most important exhibition of Chagall's works (paintings, etchings, lithographs, sculptures, stained glass, mosaics, wall tapestries on Biblical themes). Works by other artists are also displayed in the temporary exhibitions which are mounted.The stained glass wall in the concert auditorium is an excellent Chagall example.
Acropolis
In Nice, the Acropolis is the name given to the Palais des Congrès et de la Musique (center for conventions and other events); the Office du Tourisme also has its office here.
Musée Barla
To the south of the Acropolis in the boulevard Risso in Nice stands the Musée Barla, a branch of the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle. It includes collections dealing with fungi, biological evolution, paleontology, geology and mineralogy. The information displays give current information about endangered species.
Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain
The Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain for modern and contemporary art in Nice was opened in 1990. The architects were Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal. Its four towers, faced in Carrara marble, show a representative cross section of fine arts during the 1960s and 1970s: new realists and pop art, American abstracts, minimalists, the flux movement. In particular, are works on display by Yves Klein, the main representative of the Nouveaux Réalistes, who was born in Nice in 1928. A whole room is devoted to his work and on the roof terrace, which has an exceptionally beautiful view across Nice, two "immatériels" stand, which were created for the museum in 1990.A short distance to the southeast is the Place Garibaldi, with its statue of the Italian freedom fighter who was born in Nice.
