Newcastle-upon-Tyne - Earl Grey's Monument
Further to the west of John George Joicey Museum, joining Mosley Street, is Grey Street.
At the north end of Grey Street is the 135ft/42m high column of Earl Grey's Monument, a favorite meeting-place in the heart of the city. From the column's viewing platform (164 steps) there is a superb view. The monument which was designed by E. H. Bailey in 1835 in memory of the second Earl Grey, who as Prime Minister had been the architect of the 1832 Reform Bill.
