Oyster Bay Attractions

Oyster Bay was discovered in 1653 by settlers from Massachusetts. It was also the headquarters for British lieutenant colonel John Graves Simcoe during the Revolutionary War.
Earle-Wightman House Museum
The Earle-Wightman House Museum is operated by the Oyster Bay Historical Society as its headquarters, research library, and museum. It was originally built in 1720 as a one-room house and extra rooms were added over the next 150 years. An 18th century garden is located on the grounds.

Raynham Hall Museum
Raynham Hall Museum is a 20 room house, which takes visitors back in time to the 1770s during the American Revolution to an period of affluence during the 1870s. The Townsend family, one of the founding families of the Town of Oyster Bay, is highlighted.

Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary and Trailside Museum
A memorial to President Roosevelt and a museum that features Long Island plant life and animals is found on the grounds. Next to the sanctuary is Young Memorial Cemetery which contains Roosevelt's grave.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site
Sagamore Hill was the home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1868 until 1919, the year of his death. During his Presidency, it was his summer home and the furnishings still appear as they did for this busy household during his lifetime.

The Society collects and preserves artifacts and written materials that are reflective of the Townsend family and the many facets of the Nation's history. The Research Center collection includes Townsend memorabilia and genealogical material.
