Lockport Attractions

This 1824 brick house features 12 period rooms with changing exhibits.

Located on a 25 acre estate, the Kenan Center features a restored carriage house that houses the Taylor Theater. Kenan House is a restored 1859 mansion with an art gallery and formal gardens.

The tour of Lockport Cave includes walking through the cave and an underground boat tour. Visitors can view the Erie Canal locks, and a 1,600 foot tunnel that was blasted in 1838. Visitors to Lockport Cave will discover stalactites, flow stone, geological formations and artifacts left behind by the men who built the tunnel.

Narrated Erie Canal cruises take passengers past the original 1825 locks, through working locks and locking down is experienced on the return trip. The Canal Heritage Interpretive Center has exhibits, photographs and artifacts on display.

The Niagara County Historical Society Museum is devoted to county history from the early 18th C onwards. The museum complex is made up of a variety of buildings. The main building which functions as the headquarters of the Historical Society is the Italianate-style Outwater Home, built in the 1860s. Exhibits are displayed in the various rooms and include house hold implements, Civil War items, musical instruments, and more.

Other buildings of the museum include the Kandt House, the Barn, the Pioneer and Transportation Buildings, the Washington Hunt Law Office, the Colonel William Bond House, and the Erie Canal Discovery Center. Each if these has its own unique history and character, with various displays.
