The falls attracted settlers to the area and became a source of water power. Lock 17 is the largest lock on the Barge Canal. Historic Canal Place is an industrial area with two refurbished 19th century stone mill buildings. Antique and art galleries, shops, restaurants and a performing arts center are all part of the area.
This Georgian style mansion was the home of Revolutionary War hero, General Nicholas Herkimer. The house was built in 1764 and features historic furnishings, artifacts and memorabilia. A Colonial herb and vegetable garden is a found on the grounds.

The Little Falls Historical Society Museum features historical memorabilia, documents, maps, photographs, children's toys from the 19th and the early 20th Century, old seasonal greeting cards and a display of early wedding dresses.
