Kingston Attractions

Kingston was established in 1614 as a Dutch trading post. In 1652 it became a permanent settlement.
Ashokan Reservoir
Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskills is one of the main sources of drinking water for New York City. A scenic drive takes visitors on a 40 mile drive around the reservoir.
Hudson River Cruises
The Hudson River Cruises pass lighthouses and mansions along the Hudson River. The cruises last for 2 hours and narration is provided.
Hudson River Maritime Center
The Hudson River Maritime Museum provides an exclusive look at the maritime history of the Hudson River. Artifacts, paintings, exhibits, a rigging loft, antique boat restorations, and boat rides are all available at the center.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum also offers rides on the Johnstown, an authentic 1925 trolley, through the Rondout District to Kingston Point.

Kingston Urban Cultural Park (Heritage Area)
Built in 1837 by Thomas Van Gaasbeek, the Federal style house serves as the uptown information center for Kingston's Urban Cultural Park. Some exhibits rotate on a regular basis and permanent cultural and historic exhibits are on display as well.
Old Dutch Church and Cemetery
Old Dutch Church was established in 1659 and the cemetery dates from 1661. The first governor of the state, George Clinton is buried here.
Tips
Group and individual tours are available by appointment and on Sundays between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Self-guided walking tour brochures are available at the Church and by mail.
Senate House State Historic Site
This was the meeting site of the first New York State Senate. In 1927, a two-story museum was erected to house major pieces of art by John Vanderlyn, Ammi Phillips, Joseph Tubby, James Bard and Thomas Sully.

Trolley Museum of New York
The Trolley Museum shares the history of rail transportation through displays of trolleys, subways, and rapid transit cars. It is located on the original site of the Ulster and Delaware Railroad yards.

Visitors are also take on a trolley ride from the foot of Broadway in downtown Kingston, New York, to picnic grounds on the shore of the Hudson River.

Volunteer Firemen's Hall and Museum of Kingston
The Volunteer Firemen's Hall and Museum is home to firefighting memorabilia including a collection of 1800s fire convention badges. A collection of old prints, books and documents bearing testimony to the Valor of the "Vamps" as the earliest firefighters in this nation were called are on display.
