Canton Attractions
Canton was settled in the early 1800s. It is the home of St. Lawrence University, a liberal arts institution that was founded in 1856. The Main Street is lined with restored, turn-of-the-century buildings. Remington Recreation Trail provides opportunity for walking, jogging, cycling, roller blading and cross country skiing.
St Lawrence County Museum
The St Lawrence County Museum is housed in the home of Silas Wright, U.S. senator and New York governor. It was built in 1833 and has been restored to the 1830-50 period. Exhibits include furniture belonging to the Wrights throughout the home and historical data on St. Lawrence county.
