Lower East Side Tenement Museum Description
This Lower East Side Tenement Museum chronicles tenement life in the Lower East Side, an immigrant portal for over 150 years. Until 1879, there were no regulations governing to construction or maintenance of the East Side tenements where thousands of immigrants from the world over huddled together. Changing exhibits, slide shows and walking shows are part of the museum's services.

Each floor is restored to one of three different eras so that visitors can glimpse life over several generations.

Note also that the building at 97 Orchard Street is on the National Register. The building was home to an estimated 7,000 people between 1863 and 1935.
