New Orleans - Arts District (Warehouse District)

The former Warehouse District of New Orleans is bounded by Canal Street, St Charles Avenue, the Pontchartrain Expressway and the river. This was once the city's industrial area serving the Port of New Orleans. The old warehouses have since been converted into lofts, galleries and museums. This area is now known as the Arts District, and is home to the Contemporary Arts Center, the National World War II Museum, and dozens of individual art galleries.

The area has become a prominent tourist attraction in the city, attracting large numbers of visitors. As a result many restaurants and cafes have also sprung up.

The Arts District is an excellent example of a successful revitalization project. This area had fallen off the urban landscape, and was all but abandoned prior to the 1970s when efforts to restore it first began. Today it is a thriving and fun area to visit.
