Silver City - Pinos Altos, New Mexico

Piños Altos Ghost Town is located on a hillside up NM 15 from Silver City. Named for the tall pines in the area, the town was once a booming mining center. It now has a museum full of Old West memorabilia.

Western New Mexico University in Silver City was established in 1893 on 20 acres donated by John W Fleming. The university offers degrees in 70 fields of study. The Miller Library on campus has over 98,000 books and 34,000 microfilm titles.
