Puerto De Luna ("Gate Of The Moon") was a booming town until the railroad bypassed it in favor of Santa Rosa, ten miles to the north. The Pecos River was bridged here around 1540 by the Spanish explorer, Coronado. Historic buildings in the town include the original Guadalupe County Courthouse.
