Lincoln Attractions
Southeast of Albuquerque is the old Wild West town of Lincoln, scene of the Lincoln County cattle war in 1877-78, in which Billy the Kid made his debut as a gunman and ended up in jail in the County Courthouse.
The Lincoln County Courthouse is now a museum devoted to its most celebrated inmate, Billy The Kid.
There are still bullet holes on the walls from the Kid's escape, when he shot two deputies and fled town.
The Lincoln County Heritage Trust and Historical Center in Lincoln has exhibits on Native Americans, the military, and local history.

Lincoln State Monument has historic buildings and exhibitions on Billy the Kid and other figures of western history.
