Hobbs was founded in 1910, and became increasingly well-known after the discovery of oil in 1927. It is located in Lea County, southeastern New Mexico.
Harry McAdams State Park is located four miles northwest of Hobbs in southeast New Mexico. The landscaped grounds surround two small ponds, and there is a visitor center with historical exhibits.
The Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center is part of the New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs. It was founded in 1978 to honor local rodeo and ranch cowboys.
