Deming Attractions

Deming is the seat of Luna County in southwestern New Mexico. It was once the junction of the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific Railroads.
City of Rocks State Park
City of Rocks State Park north of Deming gets its name from an abundance of volcanic rock, sculpted into bizarre shapes by wind and water over millions of years. Hiking trails and a public night sky observatory have been added.

Deming Center for the Arts
The Deming Center for the Arts is located at the corner of Gold and Pine in Deming. Exhibits range from work by students of the Deming schools to works done by well known area artists.

Deming Luna Mimbres Museum
The Deming-Luna Mimbres Museum is housed in the former National Guard Armory. The museum contains artifacts from military history, pioneer life, cowboy life and Indian culture.

Luna County Courthouse
The Luna County Courthouse in Deming was completed in 1910.
Marshall Memorial Library
The Marshall Memorial Library in Deming dates from 1917. It began as a room in City Hall. In 1996, the Deming Public Library was changed to Marshall Memorial Library.

Rockhound State Park
Covering 1,100 acres southeast of Deming is Rockhound State Park, on the west slope of the Little Florida Mountains. The park is rich in agates and quartz crystals, which visitors are allowed to take with them.

Tips
Camping fees: $7.00-$10.00. Gates open 7:30 a.m. to sunset. Visitors are allowed to take up to 15 pounds of rock for their personal collections.
