D.H. Lawrence Ranch Description
20mi/32km north of Taos on a poor road is the D.H. Lawrence Ranch, the last resting-place of the writer D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930), who lived here in 1922-23. Lawrence died in Vence, in southern France, but his wife Frieda von Richthofen brought his ashes back to Taos and had them mixed with sand, cement and water to make an altar which was then set up on a specially built chapel. The ranch is now a conference center.
