Cimarron Attractions
Cimarron is in Colfax County in northeastern New Mexico, about 40 miles west of Raton on U.S. 64. Cimarron means "wild" or "untamed" which suited the town during the 1860s to 1880 - it was a magnet for every outlaw in the area. The town was revived in the early 1900s when the railroad and lumber industry arrived.
Today Cimarron has numerous museums and historic buildings as well as the nearby Sangre de Cristo mountains where recreation opportunities abounds.

Cimarron Canyon State Park
Cimarron Canyon State Park is part of the 33,116-acre Colin Neblett Wildlife Area. Trout fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking and cross-country akirring are popular activities.

Old Aztec Mill Museum
The Old Aztec Mill Museum in Cimarron has a collection of artifacts and photographs from local history. The building was originally a working flour mill built in 1864.

Philmont National Boy Scout Ranch
The Philmont National Boy Scout Ranch is a national camp owned by the Boy Scouts of America. Each year more than 18,000 scouts from around the world attend for training and adventure. Located southwest of Cimarron, the ranch covers 137,493 acres of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and calls itself the world's largest camping facility.
